2016 was the best year of my life. I experienced and accomplished so many different things that I’m so proud of. Today’s post includes experiences and accomplishments from 2016, revisiting my goals I made at the beginning of the year, and what’s to come in 2017.
2016 Summed Up
January through February is kind of a blur, though I’ll try my best to recall if anything significant happened. Gary and I both started internships at Innovation Depot in Birmingham as part of completing our entrepreneurship certificate. Our lives at the time consisted of RCIA, class, work, internship, church, and wedding planning.
On March 26, Gary, my mom, my dad, my sister, and I entered the Catholic church in an Easter Vigil (though Gary and I were at a different church than my family). I took the name of St. Thérèse of Lisieux as my confirmation saint who wrote religious plays and poems, prayers, and letters. She was known for her determination and her prayers for priests and missionaries. I strive to be like her and pray for priests and missionaries who are all over the world working towards the kingdom of God. Plus, I think I may be a little bit determined :).
In April, Gary and I traveled to Indiana for his interview with a company. We explored the city and ate our way around. Little did we know in a few months we would end up moving there and he would be working for that company!
On April 23, Gary and I celebrated six years of dating. It still bewilders me that I fell in love when I was sixteen years old.
On April 30, Gary and I graduated from UAB. I earned my Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management. Gary earned his Bachelor’s in Industrial Distribution. We were the first in the school’s history to complete the Entrepreneurship Certificate.
On May 7, Gary and I were married. It was the most special day and a day that I had looked forward to for six years.
On May 8, Gary and I started almost an entire month of traveling. We flew to Hawaii and spent fifteen days soaking up Hawaii and the sun.
On May 24, Gary and I flew to California and stayed with his family. We ate In N Out, saw the Hollywood sign, had an Armenian Barbeque, smoked a lot of hookah, ate acai bowls almost every day, went to Disneyland, visited the Getty Museum, and had so much fun spending time with his family.
On June 2, Gary and I flew back to Alabama. We spent time with our family and finished packing up all of our belongings.
One June 8, Gary and I moved to Indianapolis. Gary started his job a few days after.
On July 2, I decided it was time for a change and chopped off most of my hair – I donated 7 ponytails!
On July 20, my family came and visited us and Gary, my sister, and I all went to the Coldplay concert. We had such a fun time while my family was in town.
On August 6, my blog turned one!
On October 5, Gary and I booked a trip of a lifetime.
On October 22, Gary did our annual pumpkin picking.
On November 5, I cut my hair again, this time even shorter.
On November 19, I turned 23!
On December 10, Gary turned 23!
On December 25, Gary and I spent our first Christmas together.
Revisiting 2016 Goals
In this post, I set my goals for 2016 and I thought I’d revisit them now:
01. Focus on my health. I didn’t really exercise that much during the beginning of the year with finishing up school and wedding planning. However, once we moved to Indy, Gary and I started walking through the city more and making more of an effort to exercise during the week.
02. Read five books for fun. I crushed this goal and ended up reading 12 books for fun!
03. Journal. I actually completely failed at this goal. I haven’t journaled whatsoever this year, but I already have prompts lined up to begin on January 1.
04. Learn more about my camera. I finally learned how to shoot in manual this year. I sold my camera that I had had for two years and bought a new one. I’ve learned so much and am still continuously trying to learn more about cameras and photography.
05. Focus on joy. I never went into detail about this goal, but I feel like the past year has been full of joy.
Goals for 2017
02. Take a photography class & create videos.
03. Improve my blog content.
05. Open my online store.
What’s to come
I’m looking forward to 2017, though I think it’ll be hard to top 2016. Here’s what you can expect on the blog.
-More travel content. Gary and I already know of five trips that we’re taking in 2017. I fully plan on sharing travel diaries, photos, and videos from our trips. If you have any suggestions of what you’d like to see, let me know in the comments or feel free to contact me!
-More videos. I’m planning on filming parts of our everyday lives to share with our kids one day, but I thought I could share with you too. I’ve decided to create a one minute video each week and share them in my Sunday Vibes posts on Sundays and on my Instagram on Saturdays. You can follow me on Instagram here!
-More lifestyle posts. I’ve read your requests of including more lifestyle posts on the blog. I’ll be moving all of my beauty posts to the recommendations tab up top and replace my Monday posts with lifestyle content. Please leave post requests here!
-Monthly newsletter. I started my newsletter at the beginning of the month, but I have big plans for it in the coming year. I’ll be sharing free prints, bonus posts, stories, giveaways, and featuring other bloggers. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can make sure you’re signed up here.
-Blogger collaborations. If you missed my post collaboration and giveaway with Abby Saylor, don’t worry! We already have a few plans in the works. I’ve found that working with other bloggers is so much fun, so you’ll definitely be seeing more collaborations (and giveaways!).
I just want to take a moment and say THANK YOU for reading my blog! I’ve only been posting consistently for six months and it has been SO much fun. I really appreciate and am so thankful for each and every one of you who stop by and read my thoughts and leave comments. It means the world to me!
Happy New Year!
