4 Ways To Help Handle Stress

Lately I’ve been feeling really stressed out. Between working, interning, going to school, doing schoolwork, traveling out of town, and finalizing wedding stuff, I’ve been overwhelmed. I’ve been eating more than my fair share of chocolates (which you may have seen on snapchat.. my user is “carrieharr”) and not eating very good because I haven’t had any time to cook (which has ruined my face, by the way). Although this isn’t always the case with my stress levels, I have found a few ways to help me handle it when it does happen.

1. Pamper yourself. My way of pampering myself isn’t always conventional, but I do like to do a few things such as using a face mask or slathering on some oil before bed, watching YouTube videos during study breaks, and painting my nails while working on schoolwork. This gives me just enough distraction from my stress to ease my mind for a little while.

2. Write a list. On Monday mornings, I typically write out all of the things I need to accomplish within the next seven days. I list everything out by day in order. As the day goes on, I cross each accomplished task off the list. However, on a day like yesterday, I forced myself to stay at the library and even though I was tired, I accomplished tasks that were for another day because I knew I was in the mindset to keep going. Whereas, something might come up within the next few days that may throw my schedule off, which will create more stress.

3. Put your phone on “do not disturb” and put it away. What would I ever do without the “do not disturb” feature on my phone? Usually when I’m stressed, scrolling through social media only makes the stress worse. It’s so easy to waste precious time scrolling through photos, tweets, and videos and as a result, get behind on your work. So, when I’m stressed out, I like to put my phone on do not disturb, face down, and away from me.

4. Go to bed early. By the time 10:30 rolls around, I’m most likely in bed because I have to get up early and get to work, but when I’m stressed, I like to go to bed a little earlier than that to give my mind a break. Going to bed earlier makes me feel so refreshed in the morning.

After thinking so much about stressed, it’s made me realize that I haven’t done anything that I enjoy doing in quite some time. On the weekends, I’ve been catching up on schoolwork, so I haven’t had any time to do anything for fun. With our wedding quickly approaching in two months, I’m making it my goal in March to get back into the activities that I enjoy and take a break from schoolwork and stressing out about everything. This month, I’d really like to hit the gym twice a week, work on my blog, and read a little bit each week for fun.
