I’ve often been asked the question, “how did you start blogging?” Though my answer is relatively simple in that I just started writing, my blog took a little more than my writing to get where it is today. In today’s post, I’m going to walk you through three steps you need to make when beginning a lifestyle blog. In the coming weeks, Gary will be here to share with you the nitty gritty technical side of starting your blog.
01. Determine your “why”. This is a huge step and one that should be thought about thoroughly. Why is is that you want to start a blog? Who is your ideal audience? What needs do they have? What do they want to read/learn about? If you’re writing to the ages between 18-24, which is the majority of my audience, think about what they’re going through. My readers are in college, starting their first job, engaged, planning their wedding, traveling, and more! I cater my posts to what they’re experiencing.
02. Choose a name. When choosing a name for your blog, think about your “why”. Does it reflect what you’ll be writing about? How do you want to define your brand? The name of your blog can be your name, a concept/idea, a place, and words that represent your content. I decided to name my blog after myself because I started out writing about my life and then slowly began to use my experiences and conveyed them in posts that would be helpful to my audience.
03. Brainstorm topics & build a stockpile of ideas. Before launching your blog to the world, make sure you have a stockpile of posts already written and published. Also, keep a journal of ideas so you will have content ready to go. This way, when you do launch, you’ll have a good amount of content already published for your audience to read while they wait for more.
