Hello, 2017! For me, a new year means new goals to accomplish during the next twelve months. I love checking off a goal that I’ve accomplished. Now that I’m an adult, I take goal-making rather seriously because I’m always striving to be the best version of myself. Today, I’d like to share my goals for January, which are designed to help me accomplish my yearly goals (read this post about my goals for 2017). I’m also going to share how I’m getting organized for the new year and give you all a free desktop wallpaper!
My Goals for January
One of my goals for 2017 is to keep a journal. Gary and I both did a lot of journaling in our latter years of high school and early years in college. We would each fill up a journal written to the other and trade journals. It was so special to have something tangible to read when we were apart and something to reflect on now. This year, I want to journal so that I have written documentation about my thoughts and memories from the year. Plus, I think it’ll be really neat if our kids could read them one day. For January, I’ve already dedicated a journal and have started writing down prompts.
Another goal for 2017 is to create videos. This month, I’m going to create a video each week. The videos will recap the past seven days. I’ve never really made videos before, but I think it’s such a great way to document one’s life. I’ll be posting the videos to my Instagram on Saturdays and to my blog on Sundays. If you missed my first video recapping 2016, you can watch it here!
In 2017, I really want to scrapbook. I started scrapbooking in 2015 but haven’t kept up with it as much as I’d like to over the past year. With the amount of pictures I try to take each month, I should have enough to fill up a scrapbook. At the end of the month, I want to have the pictures I took throughout the month printed and create a space for them in my scrapbook.
I’m also working on improving my blog content this year. In January, my goal is to work on improving my lifestyle photos. I know that you guys want to see more lifestyle content, so I’m going to start by focusing on lifestyle photo improvement. It’s a bit out of my comfort zone because I take so many product photos, but I’m looking forward to trying out something different. If you have any tips for me, please leave them down below!
My last goal for the year is to open my online store. This month, I want to secure suppliers, design the website, and get all my licenses. I know that I have a lot of work to put in, so I’d like to get started as soon as possible. My email subscribers will be the first to know when my shop opens – if you’re interested, make sure you’re subscribed here!
How I’m Getting Organized for the New Year
01. Clearing out my desk. My desk usually takes on the brunt of all my messes. It’s constantly crowded with paperwork and miscellaneous items, so I’m going to give it a good clean and throw away anything I don’t need anymore. Clean desk = clear mind.
02. Keeping my goals close. I’m a huge believer in keeping my goals where I can see them. I’m going to write out my goals and have them hanging by my desk. While I work at my desk, seeing my goals nearby will remind me of what I’m striving towards every day.
03. Creating a mood board. I’ve been thinking about creating a mood board for some time, but I think now is the perfect time to move forward with the process. I want to create a board with an array of textures, patterns, photos, and designs that describe my brand. I think it’ll help me to stay on-brand and focused on what I’m pursuing. I’ll do a post on my mood board once it’s finished!
